5 Super Benefits of Lavender Essential Oil

Published on

It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s….SUPER LAVENDER? That’s right, oilers! If it could, that little bottle of lavender essential oil sitting on your shelf would come complete with its own superhero cape. Lavender is one of the superstars of the essential oil lineup. Extracted from the flowers of the Lavandula angustifolia plant, it comes chock full of oily goodness. It is one of the most popular – and versatile – essential oils in the Young Living lineup. Think of it as the go-to for all your essential oil needs. If you are new to oiling, you can’t go wrong by starting out your oily adventures with any of our Lavender products since the benefits of including it in your essential oil collection are too numerous to count on all our fingers and toes.

Let’s talk about some of the advantages of using this amazing all-purpose oil. Here are five of the best reasons we can think of for you to start using Lavender oil today.

sleep, relaxation, lavender essential oil
  1. It can cleanse and soothe minor irritations
Maybe you had entirely too much fun in the sun and may not have remembered to reapply your sunscreen regularly. Perhaps you worked up a sweat and the way your clothing rubbed against your skin caused some tenderness and a rash. Whatever the reason for the underlying irritation, Lavender essential oil can help soothe it. Apply it directly to the affected area after diluting it with an appropriate carrier oil. You can also buy one of our handy-dandy Lavender roll-ons.
  2. It can support aging skin (and young, pimply skin, too)
Aging is a natural part of life, but it sure can take a toll on our skin. Once vibrant and supple, it can become more prone to dryness and irritation as we get older. Lavender is a natural antioxidant. That means it can be your best friend in your fight against those fine lines, wrinkles, and dry skin on your face and body. Aging skin not the issue? Maybe you are more prone to acne breakouts. In addition to being a natural antioxidant, Lavender also has antimicrobial properties, making it an excellent option for soothing harsh acne breakouts. Whether you plan to use it for anti-aging support or acne-soothing support, you can make your own face mask with it. Mix together 2 teaspoons of unrefined virgin coconut oil, 4 drops of Lavender oil, and 1 teaspoon of raw honey. Apply to face and leave on for up to 20 minutes before washing with warm water.
  3. It promotes relaxation and calm
Stress and anxiety are (unfortunately) a normal part of everyday life for most people. Regardless of what is causing you to want to run screaming from the planet, Lavender essential oil can help calm your mind and soothe your spirit. Instead of hollering for Calgon to take you away, reach for your bottle of Lavender essential oil and add a few drops to your favorite diffuser. Got a headache from all the stressors of life? Apply a few drops of Lavender essential oil directly to your temples and across your forehead. Then, turn down the lights, turn on some peaceful music, and enjoy some relaxation.
  4. It shoos the flies (and other bugs) away
Summertime is here, and with it comes the outdoor barbecues and other fun activities. The only downside to being outside so much is the bugs. From flies and gnats to pesky mosquitos, there is always something out there trying to snack on us. Lavender essential oil is a natural bug repellent. You can make yourself a great homemade bug repellent, using Lavender oil as a main ingredient. Combine 8 ounces of distilled water with 20 drops of Lavender essential oil, 10 drops of spearmint essential oil, 5 drops of orange essential oil, and 5 drops of cedarwood essential oil. Shake well and spray liberally in the areas where bugs are hanging out. The best part of all is it is safe to spray directly on your skin or clothing.
  5. It promotes a more restful night’s sleep
Remember how we mentioned stress and anxiety in point #2? That is just one of many reasons why people can struggle to get a restful night’s sleep. Insomnia is believed to affect as much as 60 percent of the population. Since Lavender oil can help soothe and calm you, it only makes sense that your newfound Zen state might help you sleep better. Rub a few drops of Lavender essential oil on your pillowcase or diffuse it in the room where you are sleeping to enjoy the benefits.
