The global wellness economy continues to grow as people are starting to have a stronger interest in holistic health.

This is great news for chiropractors and others who are already in the industry. It also places greater importance on what you’re doing for your patients.

One way chiropractors can provide better care for patients is by looking into essential oil benefits. Keep reading to learn what essential oils are helpful for chiropractic patients.

Essential Oils and Chiropractic Care Go Hand-In-Hand

Unlike many physicians that provide medication and other forms of treatment that target specific organs or symptoms, chiropractic care is designed to align the spine and give the body what it needs to heal itself.

In many ways, essential oils work in the same way. While they can’t be used to treat specific conditions because they haven’t been approved by the FDA, they can help support the body and allow it to work at full capacity to heal itself.

Because of the similarities between how chiropractic care and essential oils assist the body, it only makes sense to combine them for an even greater effect.

A Few Essential Oil Benefits for Chiropractic Patients

It’s important to note that while there have been a few studies that have shown the impact essential oils can have on the body, these are not enough for any essential oils to have been officially approved by the FDA.

Even so, there are some benefits of essential oils when using them in chiropractic care whether you only use them in the office or offer them as part of a treatment plan.

Let’s dig into a few essential oil benefits your patients may benefit from.

1. Relaxation

Often, the smell alone of many essential oils can help patients relax. When breathing in infused essential oils, it can also cause someone to naturally slow their respiration rate which can also help lead to relaxation.

In the chiropractic office, it’s important for patients to relax while being adjusted. You can help your patients relax as you adjust their tender spines and necks by diffusing calming essential oils like lavender and bergamot.

2. Pain Relief

One of the primary reasons many people seek chiropractic care is for pain relief, particularly when suffering from back pain. For that reason, it’s important to do everything you can to provide pain relief to your patients.

When essential oils are used topically, they get absorbed by the skin. The chemicals in them can then act within the body to support the skeletal and muscular system. Cool Azul Pain cream can even provide pain relief. Some studies have been done to prove certain oils may have an analgesic effect on the body.

If your practice uses massage therapy as part of a patient’s treatment, it’s easy to add some essential oils to the massage oil or cream to improve the outcome of the massage.

3. Increased Blood Flow

Many of the essential oils that are known for providing pain relief do so because they can help to increase blood flow to certain parts of the body. It’s also why many of these are used to help increase your energy or boost your libido.

As you use chiropractic care to resume normal nerve functions to various parts of the body, you can also use essential oils to help increase blood flow to any areas that may need it.

4. Reduce Illness

Essential oils like thieves oil and citrus oils are known for their cleaning and purifying ability. Several studies have found essential oils work well against #allthenasties.

You can use Thieves Household Cleaner as a way to clean tables and equipment between patients or diffuse oils in the room if you have someone coming in who’s below the wellness line. This can help reduce the chances of anything spreading to you, your employees, or other patients.

Best Essential Oil Products for Chiropractors to Use

Let’s go over just a few of the best essential oil products that chiropractors can use in their clinics or recommend to their patients as part of an at-home treatment plan.

All of the products I’m mentioning are available through Young Living. They’ve spent years coming up with a variety of essential oil blends that target specific conditions or concerns.

1. Cool Azul

This product includes the following oils:

  • Dorado Azul
  • Oregano
  • Peppermint
  • Wintergreen
  • Sage

It’s designed to be used before, during, and after workouts for muscles and joints. The peppermint oil helps cool the skin while the methyl salicylate in the wintergreen helps deeper tissues.

There’s a whole line of Cool Azul products which includes a roll-on oil and a pain relief cream. The pain relief cream has been FDA certified as an over-the-counter medication, making it a great option to offer to your patients for pain relief.

2. Ortho Ease

These essential oils can be found in Ortho Ease:

  • Wintergreen
  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus
  • Thyme
  • Clary

Ortho Ease is another product that would work especially well in chiropractic offices that offer massages or that have a number of patients suffering from muscular and skeletal system issues. You can make it available for home use for those that need it.

The main ingredient in this is the wintergreen that can help your joints. Like the Cool Azul cream, it penetrates the skin when applied topically to work directly with muscles for improved joint health.

3. PanAway

Panaway includes these essential oils:

  • Clove
  • Wintergreen
  • Helichrysum
  • Peppermint

This is another essential oil blend that’s designed to help cool the skin and help alleviate pain in the muscles following a workout. One of the main differences with this is it’s also supposed to help energize the user.

In your clinic, you can use this during a massage when someone wants to feel invigorated at the end rather than relaxed.
